LIVE BLOG: Mexico vs Costa Rica

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and the Mexican national team take on Joel Campbell and Costa Rica in an international friendly at the Citrus Bowl on Saturday.

Both teams will use this game to give some players a look and test out final formations before the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July.

The game marks Mexico’s return to Orlando since last playing at the Citrus Bowl during the group stage of the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

FINAL: Mexico and Costa Rica play to a 2-2 draw. Each team dominated for a half but no one could get the game-winner.

83′ Mexico is threatening as they look for the game-winner. Layun thought he scored but he is called offsides.

70′ Mexico has been controlling possession here in the second half. 55-45 percent in favor of Mexico right now.

55′ Chicharito ties the game at 2-2 less than two minutes after Dos Santos got Mexico on the board.

53′ Giovani Dos Santos buries one into the back of the net to cut Costa Rica’s lead to 2-1.

52′ Mexico gets a chance on goal but it is blocked by the outfield player.

46′ Costa Rica takes the ball out and we are underway for the second half.

HALFTIME: Costa Rica leads Mexico 2-0 at the Citrus Bowl after the opening 45 minutes. David Ramirez opened up the scoring in the 4th minute and then Costa Rica added another on an own goal by Francisco Rodriguez in the 36th.

44′ Costa Rica is just moving the ball however they want once the make it into the final third of the field. The second half could get ugly.

42′ Mexico takes a free kick from the left side of the box and the Costa Rican goal keeper comes up with the save to keep his clean sheet.

36′ Venegas gets a foot on the ball inside the box but it goes in off of what looked like a Mexican player. After looking at the replay it looked like the ball went into the goal after bouncing off of Mexican defender Miguel Layun.

35′ Dos Santos gets called offsides, thats the fourth for Mexico so far.

34′ John Venegas takes a shot from a long ways out and it goes wide of the post, but a scary moment for Mexico.

31′ Roy Miller gets a yellow card for Costa Rica, the first booking of the game.

29′ Costa Rica nearly makes it 2-0 but Ochoa comes up big with a save for Mexico.

27′ Dos Santos gets the ball in the box but his shot is blocked for a Mexico corner kick.

25′ Costa Rica is really bringing bodies forward making it tough to defend for Mexico.

23′ Costa Rica is still applying the pressure on goal despite trailing in possession.

22′ Mexico gets a free kick from 30-yards out and Dos Santos takes the shot on goal, but the Costa Rican keeper saves it.

15′ Mexico has controlled possession but haven’t been able to create any chances yet against Costa Rica.

12′ Mexico gets called offside after making a run forward. Nothing going yet for El Tri so far.

7′ Costa Rica is really putting pressure on the Mexican defense right now.

4′ Costa Rica gets a goal from David Ramirez to open up the scoring. Ramirez was fed a through ball from Joel Campbell that left the forward one-on-one with the keeper before he finished the goal. Mexico trials 1-0.

3′ Costa Rica gets a free kick but they head the cross out of bounds for a goal kick.

2′ Costa Rica with some sloppy passing early, but Mexico isn’t looking any cleaner. We could see a lot of goals today.
