ORLANDO — With the University of Central Florida losing the series against Southern Miss., the Knights didn’t play their best baseball in their recent series.

The Knights are still tied in second with a 4-2 record with fellow Conference-USA team Rice University and third in the overall standing with a 18-15 record after dropping a road series against the University of Memphis Tigers.

The Knights didn’t play their best baseball, just scoring eight runs in the last series against Southern Miss., but they didn’t hit as much and just got in 20 hits in that series.

Southern Miss. was a difficult team to defeat with their athleticism, pitching and hitting. Notable pitching came from Jake Drehoff who pitched eight innings and six strikeouts and Connor Fisk with only six innings pitched and seven strikeouts.

Mason Robbins was the Golden Eagles’ best hitter in the series, as he batted for a .636 batting average with seven hits in 11 at bats.

The Knights’ pitching on the other hand was good in first few games of the series with Ben Lively and Chris Matulis’ performance in the first two games.

Lively had the win until the eighth inning where he gave up the lead and Matulis pitched an above average game with his consistency and control.

The only two UCF players that were hitting consistently in that series were third baseman Chris Taladay, who batted .600, and right fielder Erik Hempe, batting .500.

On the eight game road trip, UCF lost the first four games. The first losss came against the University of Florida 5-3, and then they would go on to drop three games against Memphis. The Knights are currently riding a five game losing streak.

UCF’s next game is at Tampa when they go against the University of South Florida Bulls on Wednesday, April 10 and then will cap off the road trip with a three game series against conference foe Rice.
