Worldwide accredited director and producer of documentary films, Ken Burns will be in Orlando this coming Monday, April 7 as part of the Winter Park Institute’s speaker series at Rollins College.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m at the Warden Arena, Alfond Sports Center on Rollins campus, and is free to the public.

Burns will be speaking about his 2009 documentary ‘The National Parks.’ The six episode film for television featured a look at the United States National Park system and it’s history. The series won two 2010 Emmy Awards for outstanding writing, and for outstanding nonfiction series.

“I revisit everything,” said Burns to the Orlando Sentinel. “I’ve never given the same speech twice. I’m always refining it. I’ve talked about the national parks hundreds of times since the film was released.”

Burns has been making films for more than 30 years, most of which with PBS. Some of his most widely known documentaries include: The Civil War (1990), Baseball (1994), Jazz (2001), The War (2007), The National Parks: America’s Best Idea (2009),Prohibition (2011) and The Central Park Five (2012).

Projects currently in production include The Roosevelts: An Intimate History, a seven-episode series scheduled for the fall of 2014, as well as films on Jackie Robinson, the Vietnam War and the history of country music.
