Winter Park campus participated in the annual “Spirit Day” on Thursday, October 18. The theme for this year’s event was “Follow your Art.”

Spirit Day is the biggest event for Valencia College and all campuses participate on the same day. Each campus puts their own unique spin on a common theme, which was “Follow your Art” this year.

At the Winter Park campus, there was a big emphasis on soul-searching and using art to inspire yourself and others.

Nathalie Miller, the contact for Winter Park campus Spirit Day, said, “This year’s theme is ‘Follow your art’ so we’re hoping students will find inspiration and creativity from previous artists that I guess have inspired other people through their art.”

At the Spirit Day, there were many activities for students and faculty to participate in, such as trivia, customizable t-shirts, henna tattoos, a photo booth, spray can artwork, wood etching, and airbrush tattooing. There was also a station for Trash to Treasures where students used creativity to turn unwanted items into something new.

Valencia student Hannah Bloom said, “I really enjoyed seeing the artwork and hanging out with some of my classmates outside of class. All of the activities set up were so much fun.”

Spirit Day is meant for students to take a step back from their academics and discover why they are on a journey through college while having fun.

Valencia student, Sabrina Silva said, “Spirit Day is an important event because it gives people a well-deserved break from midterms that just happened and is a great way to have fun on campus.”

Spirit Day has been happening at Valencia College for many years now and still remains a very popular event for students and faculty to get away from their work for a few hours and just have a good time while on campus.
