Night at the Library is an event held every Fall semester where students are invited for an evening of live entertainment. This year, the event took place on November 15th from 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at the East Campus library.

This was the second year the event was held; with a lineup of performers, mostly Valencia students, who played music and read poetry. Food such as pizza from Lazy Moon, cookies, fruit, and popcorn, and other refreshments were provided for attendees. Games were set up for students who wished to hang out could play in a separate area.

There was a costume contest where everyone was encouraged to dress up as his or her favorite literary character for a prize for the best costume. Other prizes were given out during the scavenger hunt. There was also a book giveaway and other free goods from other areas on campus supporting the event including DirectConnect, Career Center, and Valencia Book Nerds.

“It will be an evening where [students] can explore other people’s talents, and learn about other people’s art, which I think is important to lifelong learning because students are only here for a certain amount of time. We want to make sure that the skills and the services that they have while they are here transform them into lifelong learners where they can use these skills outside of Valencia and in their everyday lives,” said Book Nerds faculty advisor Courtney Moore.

This event was another way for students to learn about everything that the library has to offer. A library showcase table was set up to promote the different services available at the library for students to use.

“I want students to, first and foremost; know that the library is here to support them in their academic, career, and personal needs. That’s the heart of the event,” said Moore.

The event was sponsored by the Valencia Book Nerds, Student Government Association, and East Campus Library.
