Shellie Zimmerman, wife of George Zimmerman, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of perjury.

The charges against Shellie were brought as a result of her involvement in helping to mislead courts about family finances during the bond hearing for her husband, who faces second-degree murder charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Shellie testified to the courts, via telephone, that the family did not have sufficient funds to pay for her husband’s bond. She also said that she did not know how much money had been raised as part of an online fund for George’s defense.

That statement was proved false when it was revealed that the Zimmermans had over $135,000 in the bank just days before the bond hearing. Recordings of the couple speaking in code about their finances were made public, and bond for George was revoked.

Shellie was also implicit in concealing from the courts the knowledge of George’s second passport.

Zimmerman was arrested at 3:30 p.m. in Seminole county, booked on a charge of perjury with bond set at $1,000. The Orlando Sentinel reported the she was currently in the process of posting bail.
