Technology Club to Host ‘Tech Talks’

The Valencia College Technology Club will be hosting a ‘tech talks’ event this Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at Valencia’s east campus building 8, room 101.

Vice President of Business Development of Stratus Technology Services, Declan Link will be talking about the hottest IT jobs in the Orlando market. Link has worked in the industry for 20 years and is apart of of the Valencia IT Advisory Council. He had previously worked with Boston based Renaissance WorldWide for seven years as a business development manager.

According to Valencia College computer programmer Jerry Hensel, the event came about because at the Advisory Council, which meets once in the fall and once in the spring, they like to discuss who they can get to come visit. In this case, people who can talk about developing skills needed in the Orlando area.

Hensel also stated that they have a cap on how many students currently can attend at 50, with half of the spots already taken. He also stated that five classes have been invited to attend the event.

“Last event we expected 75 and we had over 100,” Hensel said.

When asked about what type of student the Tech Club aims for, he had this to say:

“This club is open for anyone interested in tech. We have digital media, science and art majors. Anyone who has any interest in tech. That’s what the club is for, we could have the IT club, but we picked the Tech Club to make it more well rounded.”
